Banks may refuse foreign currency deposits


Because of higher collection rates from foreign currency deposits in the Deposit Guarantee Fund may force banks to close foreign currency deposits.

This was during a round table said amestitel Director of the Deposit Guarantee Andrew Olenchyk, pass comment. 
"The rate of regulatory fees for hryvnia deposits in the new law on guaranteeing deposits of natural persons to remain at 0.5% by weight of the deposits, but for the foreign currency deposits rate will rise to 0.8%. This is an incentive for banks to work with the hryvnia resources ", - said Olenchyk. 
According to him, the decision to raise rates for foreign currency deposits was initiated by the National Bank of Ukraine. 
"This is to some extent a political decision", - said Olenchyk. 
In turn, Chairman of the Board "Ukrsotsbank" Boris Tymonkin believes that today unprofitable banks attract funds from the population in the currency. 
"Today we have no one to lend in dollars, according to the legislation in the currency we can only lend to exporters. Therefore, banks are filled with currency today, "- said Tymonkin.
